In response to last
week’s question, “Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling
off the table, you always manage to knock something else over?”, my
sailing friend Tom concluded, “because your grasp of the situation is much
shorter than your reach” while my friend Royce offered, “some of us are more
agile than others.”
My dad’s beach buddy
Bob explained, “I did that to some of my old girlfriends also but there was a
method to my madness. “
My birthday bud Jon
observed, “And, if you’re a true Murphy’s Law-yer, it will always be something
worse—saved the napkin, knocked over the milk.” My sailing friend Kurt
added, “Ain't that the truth, probably because you are focused so tightly on
the napkin you are trying to catch you don't see the glass of milk you are
going to knock over.”
However, my cycling
friend Ted challenged, “It is because you cannot change fate or prophecy. If
something was meant to fall, it's going to fall.” My BBQ friend Alan
clarified, “The basic problem with this is the underlying assumption that the
item that just fell off the table (the original item) wasn’t supposed to be on
the floor to begin with. So the 2nd item fell on the floor as a show of
support for the original item. It (the original item), just wanted to
stay on the floor.”
