Can you be perfectly wrong? plus a Halloween Hmmm

In response to last week’s question, "Can you be perfectly wrong?," my writing and sailing friend Rich bragged, "It’s a rare talent, but yes, I have lived it so I know it is possible."

My sailing friend Jim acknowledged, "Absolutely.  Just ask any of my ex-girlfriends," to which my broadcast TV station friend Bill empathized, "Yes. You can be perfectly wrong for a situation," to which my dad's beach buddy Bob added, "Yes, when the new outfit you just purchased turned out to be the wrong size and you can't return it."

My comedy friend Bruce noted, "I expertly painted a room and my wife said it's the wrong color.  I was perfectly wrong."

My social media friend Mark suggested, "Yes, perfectly wrong is the ideal wrong. No doubts, no questions. I have perfected it myself.   Plus it is a much easier accomplishment than perfectly right."

My forward-thinking collaboration friend Paul replied, "Politics ever risky, but in my lifetime, the one example that immediately springs to mind of someone being totally, comprehensively, perfectly WRONG is the anti-Reagan crowd about his approach with the Soviet Union.  Millions of people, especially Estonia and the Baltics (where Paul's family is from), rejoice that he ignored those who said the Cold War couldn’t be won."

My friend Richard lamented, "If you are wrong 100% of the time, that would qualify as a perfect score, right? The Falcons’ last 4 games – or all of the Braves’ games in August and September – would seem to meet that standard.  (That means there's only one way to go….Subterranean.)"

Then my equestrian friend Royce shared the other perspective, "Not if you are always perfectly right."

Happy Halloween to the children in all of us.  My thanks to my friend Jason for the Halloween party Saturday -- may we stay forever young.

Can something new be a recreation?

In response to last week’s question, "Can something new be a recreation?", my sailing friend Kurt observed, "Have you been to the movies?  They keeping recreating old movies and calling them new all the time. I'm starting to think they ran out of ideas," to which my friend Richard added, "Since half of the new movies coming out seem to be recreations of old TV series or old movies, it would seem the answer has to be yes. Some people even go to see these movies for something called 'recreation'!"

My very musical friend Blair replied, "Paint by numbers to get something new recreates the work of the masters. Well, sort of!"

And my dad's beach buddy Bob shared how "in our Upscale/Resale store, only the very best can be recreated....some call it recycling."   (http://stchristopherschildren.org/2014/01/check-out-new-photos-of-the-resale-store/)

What do Bat Boys become when they grow up?

In response to last week’s question, "What do Bat Boys become when they grow up?,"  my neighbor Al, cycling friend Ted and cat-loving friend Tracey shared, "Everybody Sing -- Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da--Batman!  Duh!"   My BBQ-loving friend Bruce added, "You so know the popular answer to that one!  Batman!  Except for that one guy who became Batgirl."

My collaboration friend Paul noted the question was in plural and replied, "Batmen" while my friend Richard suggested, "Vampires! ….or possibly other forms of blood-sucking creatures, such as members of Congress or used car salespersons."

My hiking friend Kelley cautioned, " If you’re speaking of the bat boy of Weekly World news lore, I think they grow up to be the monsters from the 2005 horror flick 'The Descent'."

My social media friend Mark noted, "Fantasy baseball camp participants," while my dad's beach buddy Bob surmised, "Louisville Sluggers?," while my writing friend Stan declared, "Bat Boys become Clubhouse Boys – and some them become drug runners."

And then my cable marketing friend Megan put this all in perspective when she wrote, "Do any boys ever really grow up?  Is there such thing as a grown man? ”

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not make just one?

In response to last week’s question, "Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not  make just one?," my dad's beach buddy Bob waxed, "It is the other Women's fault.  They just can't take no for an answer."

My social media friend Mark replied, "I know much more about destroying amends. Sorry I couldn't help."

My cycling friend Ted advised, "Mistakes rarely happen one at a time," to which my equestrian friend Royce added, "You usually have more than 1 to make up for."   To this, my St George friend Bruce concurred, "For me it's "amends" I always screw up more than one thing!"

And my college roomie John shared, "Hoping I made at least one amend, but who decides?  Working on making more amends, maybe."
