How do you want to be remembered?

In response to last week’s question, "How do you want to be remembered?," my PR friend Stan dreamed it would be, "For hitting four homers for the Mets against the Yankees…or Dodgers…or Braves."

My collaboration friend Tricia replied, "for being kind and for making a positive difference in the lives of those around me. Simple and sweet," to which my sailing friend Norm concurred, "As someone who made a difference for good of others."

While George Washington is remembered for many things including chopping down a cherry tree, my dad's beach buddy Bob was a bit pessimistic, writing "The fact is that two weeks after being put into the ground, no one will remember who you were unless you burn down city hall."

In response to last week’s question, "What makes something romantic?," my sailing friend Kurt advised, "Who you give it to, i.e. if I give my wife a rose, it's romantic; if I give you one, not so much," to which my videographer friend Ivan added, "Like a bottle of Brandied Pears given to a lover, it isn't so much the gift that is so romantic as the Spirit in which it is given."

My photographer friend Thomas lamented, "I don't think I get to decide. If you ask Google, he first result is a Reddit site titled 'Ask Women'" to which my engineering friend Steve concurred, "It's what your wife says it is!"  My jeweler friend Bill counseled, "If the diamond is large enough!"

My dad's beach buddy Bob remembered, "Ahhh.  That mischievous gleam in your eye as you hold her hand."  My sailing friend Norm proclaimed, "Candlelight."

My writing and sailing friend Rich called out, "RomEantic is the act of being wildly playful or funny while in Rome."

My equestrian friend Royce surmised, "An excellent single malt Scotch."

And my temple friend Richard recalled "the immortal words of Lily von Shtupp in “Blazing Saddles”, Ooh! A wed wose. How womantic!'”

Happy Presidents Day. Let's put current events aside for a few hours and celebrate the accomplishments of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and many other greats that held this position.

How do you mend a broken heart? and a Valentine's Day query

In response to last week’s question, "How do you mend a broken heart?," my birthday bud Jon observed, "It’s sew hard…." to which my temple friend Lesley added, "You find a good surgeon and good ole needle and thread is used."

My writing and sailing friend Rich shared, "In my case, 4 stents, the love of a good woman and a voice from the light that said 'go back and quit being too stupid to live,' to which my cycling friend Ted expounded, "There are a few ways: Drug eluting stents, Bypass Grafts, Porcine valves and Prosthetic valves, and oh yes, falling in love!"

To fall in love, my Supreme Court friend Philip counseled, "Easier said than done; you find another one to make you feel whole."  My dad's beach buddy Bob added, "With a kiss, a hug, and a rose in hand."

My college roomie advised, "Do what you like best - whether it is sailing, cycling, running, reading, music, etc.  Spend time by yourself."  My sailing friend Norm asserted, "Get busy, do something, volunteer, help someone, do something nice for someone.  These actions are guaranteed to mend a broken heart." And my temple friend Tracey declared, "Chocolate and cats!"

My temple friend Richard and equestrian friend Royce both called out, "Duct tape; it works on EVERYTHING. It’s like the force. It has a light side and a darker side, and it holds the universe together."

My PR friend Stan lamented the day after the Falcons fell in the Super Bowl, "In Atlanta, you mend a broken heart by knowing that pitchers and catchers report to camp on Valentine’s Day, or Spring football practice starts…whenever – or the Hawks are doing well – or that Atlanta can’t lose the Stanley Cup," to which my logic friend and wordsmith Alan empathized, "We feal the Atlanta Pain.  Atlanta shudda won!"

And my cousin Greg recommended, "Ask the Bee Gees."

Can you accidentally eat too much?

In response to last week’s question, "Can you accidentally eat too much?,"  my networking engineering friend Andrew observed, "Yes, like 'accidentally' falling in love or finding a job."

My writing and sailing friend Rich confused, "I am so clumsy. If I had a dollar for every time I slipped in the kitchen and landed face down in freshly baked pecan pie, I would be able to afford a much needed gym membership,"

My cycling friend Ted replied, "No, but eating too much can cause an accident!"

My dad's beach buddy Bob confused, "only when I cook too much as I hate to have any leftovers which is no accident,"
to which my social media friend Mark shared, "Of course. I do it all of the time. Don't really realize it until that scale creeps up beyond yesterday's number."  My business coach and speaker friend Lindy admitted, "Yes, you can definitely accidentally eat too much. But I confess to intentionally overeating, especially when chocolate or bacon are available. Yes I know better... yet continue to do so. I'll never learn."

My recruiting friend Jason noted, "I keep busy while waiting for the commercials."

My sailing friend Bradley explained, "As far as eating too much I’m not a good person to ask. With my old roommate the serving size for Krispy Kreme doughnuts was 1 dozen, so my portion size is a little skewed.  But for the Super Bowl I can tell you what I’ll be doing.  I’m not much of a football fan but I am a fan of hanging out with friends. So I’ll show up, eat plenty of snacks, probably cheer for the opposing team just for the heck of it, and celebrate friendship.  Go friends! Hooray for snacks! And if I’m lucky they’ll have 2 tvs and put the puppy bowl on the other one.

My cousin Wes replied, "Yes. Then GERD kicks in and I become Roman."

What a heartbreak for America as the Falcons were way, way up at halftime only to lose the Super Bowl in OT.  Congrats to the Patriots who know that football is a 60 minute game; it's not just the first 30 minutes that matter.
