Why do all flat surfaces accumulate ‘rubbish’?

In response to last week’s imponderable question, “Why do all flat surfaces accumulate ‘rubbish’?,”  my writing and sailing friend Rich called-out, “My wife would  say that is because all men are pigs, no exceptions.”  My dad’s beach buddy Bob observed, “Like dust, it accumulates where it is never used.”

My birthday bud Jon observed, “Because it rolls off the curved surfaces” and my adjunct exec friend Lindy concurred, “because rubbish falls off round surfaces.”

My cycling friend Ted replied, “Rubbish only accumulates in the UK.  Here, flat surfaces just get a lot of crap!”

My temple friend Richard expounded, “Flat surfaces accumulate “rubbish” because the stuff would fall off any other surface and crash to the ground.  However, the use of the term “rubbish” is rather pejorative.  As the old adage goes, “One man’s trash may be another’s treasure.”  This of course has led to the invention of the “man cave” as a place where those of us hindered by our XY chromosomes may protect our “treasures” (such as bobbleheads, pennants representing our favorite professional franchises (including those from institutes of higher learning which we attended with varying degrees of success), empty beer and soft drink cans and bottles, and empty containers from contraband substances (i.e., anything NOT on our diets).”

And my equestrian friend Royce paraphrased Neil Young, "Rubbish never sleeps.”

Please send me your thoughts about this week's "things that make you go 'Hmmm' ":

What’s the point of folding laundry?

Live well...laugh often and heartily.... have a good week and never regret anything that made you smile!

Wishing my favorite person, Alison, Happy Anniversary this Sunday.

Next Monday’s observance of Memorial Day remembers those who lost their life defending our country.  More recently, we’ve included firefighters, police and other first responders who continue to protect our way of life.  It is a privilege – and responsibility – living in the US.  It reminds me of part of Alison and my wedding vows, “Easiest isn’t best.”  Thank you to the individuals and their families who gave their life for our country.

Thanks to Demetri Martin, Steven Wright and George Carlin for the inspiration for Hmmm.   I invite you to call or email me to catch up.
