Aren't the 'good things that come to those who wait' just the leftovers from the people that got there first?

In response to last week’s questions, “Aren't the 'good things that come to those who wait' just the leftovers from the people that got there first?“, my dad’s beach buddy Bob noted that, “the best gravy is at the bottom of the pan as is the butter that covered the vegetables.” My colleague Effie went further to support not hurrying by writing, “They are, but if you’ve ever seen an expensive new phone drop in price a month after being released, or 1st generation game systems recalled due to defective firmware, or a new “Windows Update” crash a third of the computers it’s installed to, or if you’ve ever tried Mama’s famous baked turkey you’ll realize that “Leftovers” and “Good Things” are not mutually exclusive concepts.”

My friend Tracey concurred when she wrote, “Sometimes the 2nd batch comes out better than the first. Those that rush to be first are often guinea pigs for the patient ones.”

And my birthday buddy Jon succinctly put it, “Except for good wine.”

My sailing buddy Kurt did though, find a reason to get there first. “Yes, while the losing (sailing) crews did get a chance at the rum, the winners did get there first.”

Remember to celebrate the observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday as a day of service. As signs in Atlanta, home to MLK, say, “MLK Day is not a day off, but a day on.” Find a way to volunteer and pay it forward.
