Do happy dogs have bigger tail muscles?

In response to last week’s question, "Do happy dogs have bigger tail muscles?", my social media friend Mark provided the answer of a real dog lover, writing, "Dog's tail wagging muscles are the strongest muscles anywhere. They can make every human smile, make busy people stop for a moment, make sick people feel like someone cares, and even make other tails wag just at the sight."

My Parrothead friend Samantha saw the strength from a slightly different view as she wrote, "Yes they do, and those extra tail muscles help knock you down and then propel them to your face for wet dog kisses to prove it :) "

My dad's beach buddy Bob concluded, "Only the females because they always end up doing all the wagging," to which my friend Royce queried, "Which brings up the question of whether or not the tail wags the dog or the dog wags the tail?"
My friend Richard observed, "No, but unhappy dogs seem to have much bigger teeth!"  My temple friend Lesley noted, "Except for the dogs whose tails were docked, I would say 'yes.'"

My sailing friend Norm responded, "They must, because they wag so much and so hard.  Happy dogs also have strong butt muscles because they wag their butts as often as their tails."

What's the difference between a passion or an addiction?

In response to last week’s question, "What's the difference between a passion or an addiction?," my birthday bud Jon, who I've missed hearing from, concluded, "If I am obsessed with something, it’s  passion.  If you do, it’s an addiction."
My hiking friend Kelly explained, "Over the years, I’ve won awards and trophies for some of my “passions”.  I've never heard of anyone getting the “most crack smoked” or the “whodababydaddy” award!"  My engineering friend Steve suggested, "A psychiatrist’s diagnosis or a politician’s law I’d suppose."

My dad's beach buddy Bob observed, "For an addiction, you have to go into rehab to overcome it;  but a passion can disappear overnight."

My writing and sailing friend Rich advised, "When it's good for you, it's a passion, When it's bad for you, it's an addiction," to which my friend Royce added, "It's about a human hair."  My social media friend Mark shared a similar thought, "It is the exact same difference as eating what is good for you or food that tastes good," to which my dog rescue friend Kate described "Chocolate and alcohol."

My cycling friend Ted wrote, "A passion is something you love and is ultimately good for you, like cycling.  An addiction is something that feels really good and can cause financial or marital chaos, like flying a private plane!"

My neighbor Al replied, "Passion is only legal in Nevada and involves the use of your small head.  Addiction is legal in Colorado and Washington and involves your larger head.   Passion can lead to sharing of STD's and leads to a broken marriage.   Addiction leads to sharing snack foods and leads to Taco Bell."

Why is George Washington's portrait on the cheap $1 bill while Grover Cleveland is on the $1,000 bill?

In response to last week’s question, "Why is George Washington's portrait on the cheap $1 bill while Grover Cleveland is on the $1,000 bill and Salmon Chase is on the $10,000 bill?," my writing and sailing friend Rich realized it's "because Washington wants to be in everyone's pocket."

My product management friend Doug concluded, "Sometimes less is more… and conversely more is less important.  Now that I am a married man I'm much more likely to have $1.00 in the wallet vs. $1,000 and certainly never $10K.  Given that I had to “Google” Salmon Chase's name, it shows you the impact he’s had on most Americans."  My friend Tracey added, "I was thinking Salmon Chase might be an Aleutian sporting event.

My sailing friend Norm explained, "You obviously are in some kind of rich cash business. Even my highest income and wealthiest clients have never seen a $1000 bill or a $10,000 bill.  So how would we know who's pictures are on them?"

My friend Richard countered, "I think it’s because press agents hadn’t been invented in the 18th century.  Cleveland and Chase got better publicity."  Speaking of publicity, my friend Lesley challenged, "George didn't deserve to be on anything more than the single. In fact, the first President of the United States was John Hanson. Look it up and be amazed."

My dad's beach buddy Bob observed, "Because when in George Washington's time it was probably worth more than $10,000 less the inflation factor" to which my social media friend Mark replied, "this is trending towards George W. being on the million dollar bill."

My hiking friend Kelly queried, "There’s a $10,000 bill?  I’ve gots to get me some of those!!"; however my friend Tracey, who works at Chase, explained, "they don't mint the $1000, $5000 or $10,000 anymore. They can't even be ordered from the Fed."   To this, my sailing friend Mike concluded, "being on the $1 makes Georgie the most frequently seen prez!"

OK, so 25-0 was as far as Syr U could go with basketball, losing to BC and Duke this past  week.  Gotta say it was a fun run.  Now for the ACC tourney.

Why is a head cold not just only in your head? (and Valentine question)

In response to last week’s question, "Why is a head cold not just only in your head?",  my U of Pitt-alumni* friend Richard explained, "Because once your head gets completely full of mucus, it has to spread out to the rest of your carcass. The alternative is that it escapes via the top of your head and your ears…which might actually feel better!"

My dad's beach buddy Bob replied, "Because the others are to be found in other areas such as chest cold, cold feet and let's not forget 'cold hands with a warm heart.' "

And then my cousin Wes "wished they were just in my head. Then my psychiatrist could cure it…maybe."

(*) What a great year to be a college basketball fame and a Syracuse alum. 23-0 and ranked #1.  Syracuse v Pitt is Wed at 7pm followed by (get this) the less buzz-worthy ACC game: Duke at UNC. Join us with a big, loud "Let's Go Orange!"

Atlanta and snow:  Keep the jokes coming.  We're being environmentally friendly by not treating our streets with chemicals that runoff to our streams --- or driving plows that burn fossil fuels.  ;-)

What are the 4 food groups for the Super Bowl Sunday?

In response to last week’s question, "What are the 4 food groups for the Super Bowl Sunday?", my social business leader friend Andy concluded, "Grass, Mud, Beer, Pizza."

My dad's beach buddy Bob explained, "I thought there were only 2, beer and Brats," to which my writing and sailing friend Rich countered that the two food groups are "The good stuff your wife and cardiologist have agreed you can eat and all of the bad stuff that got you your introduction to the cardiologist in the first place. The Super Bowl is one of the  feast nights where I am granted special dispensation to eat from the 'Yummy but Deadly' food group. In the words of the immortal Freddy Mercury, 'Who wants to live forever?'"

My dog-loving IT friend David recalled, "FYI, the four food groups for college students are, in no particular order, (1) Alcohol (2) Grease (3) Sugar and (4) Caffeine.  I think only 1 and 2 apply to the Super Bowl.  Parrotheads would also be remiss not to point out that the 8th deadly sin is “Pizza!”, another Super Bowl staple."  (Kudos to David for the Jimmy Buffett reference to "Bank of Bad Habit"; is it a coincidence that David works for a bank?)

My friend Royce listed the 4 as, "Beer (protein and vitamins), nachos (grain), brats/hot dogs (meat group), and the veggie groups are represented by onions on your brat or dog. Pretty damn healthy if you ask me."  My neighbor Al defined the 4 as "Beer, nachos, wings, and beer" while my engineering friend Steve actually listed 4 unique items as he replied, "Chips, Chili, Wings, Beer… they're all food groups aren’t they?"  And my friend Richard recognized the important of the beverages, writing, "Spicy chicken wings, pizza, snack foods (chips, pretzels, etc., and possibly tref if you are a really Reform Jew!), and the beverage of your choice (soft drinks, beer, wine, schnapps, etc.)."

My Denver cousin Wes connected key foods to each grouping, "grain = beer; fruit= wine; veggie= vodka/chip/ketchup; meat= hot dogs/brats/roast seahawks; dairy=dip.  Oops that's five."
